I don’t know about you, but I love a story with a happy ending. Even if, or especially if, the road was tough and there was a lot of hurt and turmoil to overcome, if it ends happy- I love it!
Reading became a passion for me the day I discovered Ramona in the fourth grade. Beverly Cleary became on of my favorite people, I was amazed at how well she understood that growing up was hard and so many of our actions were misunderstood. Someone out there understood and I was comforted by that revelation. From then on, reading was and still is a favorite past time. I have said for years that one day I would write a book, too.
Last year, on July 11, 2018, I decided that “one day” had come and by the time our next anniversary arrived I would have written and sold my first novel. As I sit here today, June 17, 2019, that first novel is finished and I am waiting impatiently for one of the agents I have queried to beat my door down, desperate to represent me! But, for what I can control, I have kept that promise to myself and wrote the book.
I discovered something during that process- I LOVE writing the way I LOVE reading. I can’t wait till I can sit back down at the computer and write down the incredible activities of the characters that have come to life. The thrill is just as great as turning the pages of my favorite author. I also figured out that if you are a great at the task of worry, asking “what if” all the time, there is a super good chance that you have the write kind of imagination to be a writer.
While the process of writing a novel was a new experience for me, writing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I write in my prayer journal every morning, I have written LOTS of blog articles for this blog, many workbooks about gardening and herbs and many other odd pieces. So, now it’s time for my writing to move to forefront of my life as the seasons have changed, my youngest turned 18 years old last week, and I am ready to embark on the career that will fill the second chapter of my adult life.
Thank you for sharing this new chapter with me!
